Overview

Formulated for qualified Aromatherapists who want to upgrade to the standard required by the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA). Presently, the minimum level of training is the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Aromatherapy, originally drawn up in consultation with the Aromatherapy Council and Aromatherapists throughout the country and refined by the Skills for Health Team.

IFPA accredited schools teach to the IFPA syllabus which has been developed at Level 4/5 of the Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA). (NOS being at level 3).

There are three entry points for Students to apply for their Upgrade.

  1. Interview/Review: A 2-hour interview consisting of a Review of Course-Work & Experience to date to ascertain what additional training will be required. This would be conducted with one of our Moderators in Dorset where you would also have the opportunity to talk about your specific requirements. The cost for this is £150.

    We would then design a Tailor-made Distance-learning Course - the price to be agreed - depending upon the amount of work required - typically £400 - £700. You would be required to complete Case-histories, and to take the Theory Examination. The Theory Examination & Review of Case-studies costs £150. We would contact you to arrange these.

  2. IFPA Mapping Process: Completion of a mapping process against the IFPA syllabus (which we send you) that will indicate the gaps in your knowledge, enabling us to determine what additional training is required for your Upgrade. There is no charge for this. Please contact us via e-mail at info@theseedinstitute.co.uk to request this.

    We would then design a Tailor-made Distance-learning Course - the price to be agreed - depending upon the amount of work required - typically £400 - £700. You would be required to complete Case-histories, and to take the Theory Examination. The Theory Examination & Review of Case-studies costs £150. We would contact you to arrange these.

  3. VTCT: VTCT Level 3 qualified applicants who have attained their qualification in the last 7 years apply for the Upgrade Syllabus that has already been formulated for them. There is no need to perform the 'mapping process' or attend an interview as we know the syllabus you will have covered and already have distance-learning modules prepared to bring your qualification to a level 4/5. This Tailor-made Distance-learning Course costs £450. You would be required to complete Case-histories, and to take the Theory Examination. The Theory Examination & Review of Case-studies costs £150. Therefore the total cost for VTCT students; qualified in the past 7 years, is £600.

  4. ITEC: ITEC Courses have various syllabuses and it is therefore necessary for ITEC students who want to Upgrade to complete the IFPA Mapping Process. Please contact us via e-mail at info@theseedinstitute.co.uk to request this.

Course Content

The course content is tailored to the needs of the individual and the level of knowledge is adjusted accordingly.

The additional work required for the Upgrade is usually covered via Distance-learning, though it is possible to arrange one-to one training with a Tutor in Dorset. Please contact us if this is of interest to you.

For some Applicants it is agreed that in addition to their Distance-learning it would be beneficial to attend our 5 day in-house Aromatherapy Practical Module.

Costs for available 'in-house' training options are as follows:

An IFPA Certificate of Upgrade will be presented to successfully completing participants.

Once successfully completed, the Upgrade will allow the practitioner to become a full member of the IFPA.
